The Big Apple – A Visit to the World’s Largest Apple (Claimed)
Yes, you read this title correctly! This is a big apple, a very big apple. It is an apple so big that if you are driving on Highway 401, it will be impossible to miss. After years of ignoring this apple I finally stopped in, and… well what can I else can I say about this apart from it is exactly what I imaged it would be.
What to do at the Big Apple?
The whole goal of the Big Apple is to draw you in so you can buy things and at that it does. The complex sees practically 500,000 visitors per year (2020). The apple has a name, Mr Applehead, a creative name if there ever was one. Its dimensions are a 12.1 m (40 ft) tall by 11.5 m (38 ft) wide. Apparent, it can hold 650 000 apples!
Once you have visited the beast, you can pop into the giant gift shop. Attached too it are a a dine-in restaurant, a pie factory, a petting zoo, an amusement park (for small children) and a miniature golf course.
Among the best sellers are its famed apple pies. 2,000 pies per week are sold, and as of 2020, over 7.9 million pies have been processed since its initial opening.
You can see the bakery in action from the gift shop. You will also find a bar with apple based ciders and craft beers.
For those of you interested the apple cider is good too. It is strangely enough sold from slushie machines!
