Where are the Falls Located?
Located off roadway 89, towards Lake Placid, just beside the Wilmington Notch Campground at the base of the mighty Whiteface Mountain, you will find a mighty waterfall spilling itself down the Ausable River. is a beautiful drive through the notch, so sit back and enjoy the scenery.
There is a large parking lot by the side of the road so that you may be able to access the site.
Exploring the Falls
After you finish paying you will cross over the Ausable River, you will receive a fantastic view of Sunrise notch / Moss Cliff in the distance.
From here the pathway will begin to head downward towards the falls themselves. A catwalk system will carry you to several lookouts along the perimeter of the falls, where the cliff face is too steep to hike.
Flows are at their greatest during both the spring and falls and make for amazing photo opportunities.
One of my favorite area’s is along the ledge after the waterfall itself where the catwalk hangs over a canyon like landscape.
The river calms and hits a more level terrain. The fall colours in this area were stunning at the time of my visit.
Once you are done, you can cross over the river again and get views from the opposite side! The track makes a big figure eight around the river, with three crossing points along two linear trails along the river so it is an easy visit
