Exploring La Pointe-de-Saint-Vallier – A 300 Year Old Seigneurial Estate
Located in the Chaudière-Appalaches, not far from the town of Berthier-sur-Mer, this lovely 300 year old estate with a beautiful mansion house makes for a gorgeous stop-off for lunch.
Pointe-de-Saint-Vallier
A long road will take you into the complex from the main road, roadway 132, where you will pass beautiful heritage barns.
It is a point extending into the St. Lawrence with a series of calm walking trails along the water. The site of the mansion offers outstanding views of the Montmagny archipelago in the distance as well as the tidal flats.
The mansion itself is right on the point at a position elevated far above the water! This isolated estate was once called Pointe-a-la-folie (Fool’s Point). The land was originally owned by the Seigneur (French Lord) Olivier Morel de la Durantaye, who subleased the property before selling to the estate to André Poiré in 1745, who built the first house here, the house of Amos.
The structure was originally conceived in the 18th century and was composed of two buildings, a main one for domestic needs and the other one an outer building. Under the ownership of Charles Alleyn in the 1860 the architecture of both houses was harmonized and linked together into the principal body of the house of Amos.
