Les Chutes Montmorency – A Stunning 83 meter Waterfall Just Outside of Quebec City

Location of the Falls
Located at the intersection of the Montmorency river with the Atlantic bound St. Lawrence, where along spanned suspension bridge connects the north shore to the lovely l’Île-d’Orléans, this waterfall offers a dramatic view of the landscape.

Accessing the Falls
You can park either at the bottom of the falls and walk up via the Montmorency Falls Panoramic Staircase or you could take take a cable car to the top. Alternatively, you could try to park at the top. This option may be moer limited on a busy day.
Alternatively, you could take public transit. Bus 800 will take you directly up to the top from the city center.
Where to Eat/Drink?
If you happen to be at the falls near lunch time or sunset there are a few great places to grab a beer and food. The first is the historic Manoir Montmorency, an old bourgois manor house with roots from the 18th and later 20th centuries, located on the south side of the falls in the heights above the St. Lawrence. Le 1759, a food truck will also provide delicious poutines. If you are interested, you could walk in to the neighbourhood and check out the Pub De La Chapelle
Exploring the Waterfall
The top of the waterfall and the historic staircase on the north side of the river top offer the best views of the falls as well as the surrounding landscape.

Don’t look down though, you may get vertigo!
On the north side of the falls, you will find a redoubt that once served as the camp of the British General Wolfe, the military genius who would take Quebec City from the French. You will also find a zip-line crossing the falls nearby.
The view of the falls from the staircase itself is incredible!
