555 Greatest Movies of All Time (Since the 1950’s)

What makes a good film? This question will vary greatly depending on the respondent. Should one focus on the aesthetic qualities of the film, after all it is a visual medium or should one stick simply the plotting or story telling. This list is a fair attempt to lay out some of the greatest films put to tape based on a wide ranging series of criteria ranging from cultural impact to the way the film was made. This all being with a caveat that the movies included were produced after 1950. The cutoff may seem arbitrary, but it is when I consider the modern era – the James Dean Era – in movies to begin. I have a difficulty comparing the emotive and demonstrative style of acting as seen in early silent move to the more dialogue based interactions as seen in today’s movies. As such I find it easier to separate them.

Without further ado, here is a list of what I consider to be the “555 Greatest Movies of All Time”.
